Open Surgery
It is impossible to determine at what stage during the evolution of the human species the art of surgery first emerged. Most probably it was when a clever and daring healer realized that "what cannot be healed by medicine can be healed by the scalpel." Numerous findings, both prehistoric and later, suggest the application of surgical techniques for the treatment of various ailments.
Laparoscopic Surgery
Very early in the evolution of surgery, it was realized that surgical trauma triggers reactions and is responsible for the appearance of undesirable effects such as pain, bleeding, infections, ileus, etc. Since the beginning of the previous century, efforts had begun to reduce surgical trauma without altering the final result.
Robotic Surgery
The concept of Minimal Interventional Surgery is nowadays well established in the conscience of every modern surgeon, who understands the need for reducing surgical trauma at all levels. The aim, even when operating laparoscopically through very small incisions and with very fine tools, is to perform very precise, targeted and effective movements so as to limit unnecessary injuries to tissue.

After much experimentation the result was the first Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy in 1987, an achievement which paved the way for the magical world of Minimally Invasive or Laparoscopic Surgery.

The aim, even when operating laparoscopically through very small incisions and with very fine tools, is to perform very precise, targeted and effective movements so as to limit unnecessary injuries to tissue. The more atraumatic the operation is, the quicker and painless the post-operative recovery, post-operative complications are close to zero, and in general the hardship of going through surgery passes with the least cost. As part of this generalised demand, the space-age technology of robots has gradually entered our everyday life.
Safety in Surgical Operations
As surgical department director, I consider patient safety to be the dominant requirement and also my personal responsibility.
Through my personal choices and interventions, I aim to ensure that any risks are minimized and that any possible problem is effectively addressed.
Precision with respect to the patient
Every patient is a unique and special case and should be treated as such.
Prior to each surgery, I personally take care of collecting and studying all necessary information.
Elegance and care for human body
My experience has taught me that when a surgeon operates on the basis of absolute respect for the tissue, the chances of error and complications are minimized.
It is in a woman's nature to love order and good taste, to have open channels of communication with the environment and an enhanced ability to perceive and understand incoming messages. In the language of sociology this ability is called "empathy".
